Course Summary

This course combines 2 nationally accredited units:

  • HLTINF005 Maintain Infection Control Standards
  • NAT11035001 Advise on specialist body piercings
  • NAT11035002 Provide specialist body piercings

This course provides the skills and knowledge for individuals to work in body piercing and tattoo
studios, clinics, parlours, salons, and shops.

It is designed to train students to safely offer body piercing in a professional clinic and have a thorough knowledge of sterilisation and cross-contamination issues.

The course covers skills and knowledge to consult with and advise clients on jewellery and piercing sites, risk factors and self-care.

Students practice in a clinical environment to use body piercing equipment and provide a range of body piercings. There is a strong focus on maintaining infection control and understanding regulatory requirements.

With this qualification you can seek employment in body piercing or set up your own practice in body piercing.

Nationally Recognised Code & Title

This Professional Body Piercing course combines 3 qualifications/nationally recognised codes:

  1. HLTINF005 Maintain Infection Control Standards
  2. NAT11035001 Advise on specialist body piercings
  3. NAT11035002 Provide specialist body piercings

Course Pre-Requisites

Students undertaking this course must hold a State of Attainment in HLTAID003 Provide First Aid.

Students need to be least 18 years old in order to have sufficient maturity to advise on and provide body piercings.

Student Requirements

  • Basic Language, literacy and numeracy skills in English (LLN)
  • Victorian Student Number (VSN) – Victoria only:
    • VSNs are issued to all students enrolled in Victorian schools and to students enrolled
      at a TAFE or in an accredited course with an RTO. For a copy of your VSN please contact your current school 0r call
      1800 822 635.
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Australia wide:
    • A USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters. It creates a secure online record of your nationally recognised training that you can access anytime and anywhere, and it’s yours for life. To receive a Statement of Attainment when completing your course, you will need to give us a copy your USI number. Creating a USI is free. To obtain this USI if you don’t already have one please follow the link below:

  • Models for piercing practice:
    • Students who can supply their own models benefit more than those who do not, as it
      provides more opportunity for practice of skills.
  • Access to a functional pc or tablet device with internet access and Google Chrome
    internet browser.

Course Delivery Method

Blended both face to face training and online component.

Course Duration

4 full days of face to face in a classroom and clinical environment, plus online theory at your own pace.

Online theory remains live for 3 months post face to face training. Please see below for more information on extensions.

Most students take anywhere between 1 and 3 months to complete the online component, it is recommended you start your online training straight away.

$3,670 per candidate ($1500 nonrefundable deposit upon enrolment).

  • Micro dermal Implanting techniques.
  • Clinical Practice & Required Set-up of a Professional Clinic.
  • Sterilisation Issues & Operations.
  • Professional & Legal Implications.
  • Client Welfare & Individualized Servicing.
  • Metal Compatibility for Implantation.
  • Cross Contamination Awareness & Safety Issues.
  • Safety & Skill with Equipment.
  • Consent, Records & Education.
  • Contra-indications & Post Piercing Issues, etc.
  • Piercing Names, Placements and Appropriate Jewelry.
  • Health, Safety and Hygiene in the Studio including the Control of Blood Borne Viruses.

You will need to have access to a computer that has an inbuilt web camera or software for an external web camera and microphone to complete online assessment tasks. Google Chrome is required when completing your online assessments.

Some mobile devices can be used to record and upload information as well as complete the online assessments.
